If
you found 24 hour emergency electrician Melbourne.com.au you may have
electrical power problems or your lights don't work. Don't panic, a
list of tips may help you find answers. First visit your neighbor and
ask them if they have any electrical power issues, try and ask two or
three if possible, your streets electrical supply is split up into
different electrical feeds, and if it seems there are no lights or
power across the neighbors house contact you local electrical supply
company, they may be working on a emergency wiring repairs, I am sure
they are ready to help ?
If
you find all your next door neighbors have electricity to there
property and you don't its time to find a torch and your main
switchboard. Your electrical fuse board can be outside your front door,
out side at the side of the house or they can be in hall ways or in
cupboards.
You
may also look for a black box outside you home wear the main electrical
cable attaches to your house and look only, to see if it may be burnt
or a tree or some obstruction may have damaged it. In strong windy days
you also may hear crackling or sparking wires if they become loose,
this is were you need to contact you electrical supply company so that
they may disconnect the electrical cable for the electrician to repair.
Some
electrical switchboards have doors, or hidden behind the front door
inside your home or in a hallway, or cupboard door even outside the
front door or the side of your home. Now that you have located your
switchboard or fuse box should be labeled as follows,
- 1 - Most homes have one Main Switch Light and Power & a rating between 30 amps to 63 amps on average.
- 2 - Secondly electrical wall oven or stove with a fuse rating between 20 amps and 32 amps.
- 3 - A average home may have one to thee light fuse or circuit breaker & fuse rating between 8 amps & 10 amps for circuit breakers.
- 4 - Power fuse or circuit breakers, up to about 4 or 5 units rated at 16 amp fuse.
- 5 - Also one to two air conditioning fuses rated at 16 amps.
- 6 - Next a safety switch range from 16 amps 60 amps depending on the electrical installation.
- 7 - Then last some homes will have electrical hot water switch & fuse rated at 16 amps.
- NOTE : all fuse, circuit breaker & safety switch rating protection sizes are determined on how your electrical cables have been installed, so contact your local electrician for advice if in doubt.
Now look only at your main switch to see for any burn marks around it, most switches are light in color and it will look burnt. If there are no burn marks around the unit, look at your fuses or circuit breakers for heat problems. This will establish the electrical switch board may be safe to change fuses or reset circuit breakers. As long as there are no heat marks around the switchboard or a smell of burnt plastic.
If
you decide to look at the fuses to change them you must turn your main
switch off first. This will allow you to pull the fuse out and rewire
the fuse and insert it without a spark, if the problem still exists.
Once you replace you fuse, switch your main switch back on with your
face, facing away from the board. If your fuse
blows again do not attempt this and contact an electrician. The same
applies for circuit breakers, after resetting your circuit breaker and
it trips contact an electrician. It has been our experience that at
times circuit breakers and safety switch's just don't reset, it mat be
they need to be replaced.
Once it has been established the fuses and circuit breakers are no blowing or tripping out you will need to look at your safety switch. If your Safety switch has tripped then you need to unplug all electrical appliances and disconnect them from the power points. Most people only switch the switch off at the power points and leave the electrical leads still plugged in, this dose not disconnect the electrical appliance from the circuit as the switch from the power point is only switching the active wire not the earth and neutral. OK now if all your electrical appliances are disconnected, try to rest your safety switch, they need a little force to push up and if it holds then replace all your electrical appliances one at a time. If you find the problem appliance then it will trip your safety switch once you have plugged it in a power point. If you find after disconnecting all the your appliances & find your safety switch is still tripping there may be a problem with your wiring and needs to be rectified by a certified electrician.
